[xfce] bad behavior when plugging/unplugging dock

Hello

I run a fresh install of debian 12 with xfce installed through the install media.
My Laptop is lenovo thinkpad L14 gen 4 type 21H1-CTO1WW
I want to use it with my dell wd19TB dock on which the two displayport outputs go to my KVM
A very common use case I have is to plug/unplug the laptop from the dock as I move around, lid closed or open. Dock is always powered up.

Here's the test case, i run everything in order, and just that:

1. boot & log in on battery, use xfce settings to suspend when lid is closed on battery, and to lock screen when plugged-> OK

2. plug dock and arrange screens ->OK

3. set primary screen to one of the external monitors (through the xfce gui)-> NOK xfce panels do not move over

4. close lid -> laptop screen turns off and primary screen changes to what i set in step 3 -> OK

5. open lid -> laptop screen comes on as expected but primary screen reverts to laptop -> NOK

6. close lid then unplug -> laptop does not sleep -> NOK

7. still unplugged, open lid, see picture, close lid -> laptop sleeps -> OK

8. while sleeping, plug the dock -> NOK, laptop does not wake up.

9. open lid , wait for screens to come up on the login prompt, close lid, now my monitors stay on, so i attempt to log in > black screen -> NOK

10. open lid again, can't log in now (frozen prompt). -> NOK

11. go to tty1 then to graphical session -> NOK, says 'this session is now locked and you will be redirected to login prompt' but does not redirect

At that point I'm forced to restart lightdm to recover the graphics.

Attached are dmesg and xorg.

How to fix this?

Thanks
