Ctrl-Alt-F12 cannot recover with reboot

I unintentionally pressed Ctrl-Alt-F12 and my Debian 11 system went dark. After rebooting X does not start. The message Failed to start Light Display Manager appears. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 opens a usable terminal. Have looked at various logs with limited success. Reinstalled lightdm with no change.
Xorg.0.log has error message Fatal Server Error. Any suggestions on where I can do? Am considering reinstalling the nvidia-driver (have a GP108).

Reinstalling nvidia-driver did not help. Here is /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Later The second failure in the Xorg.0.log, [drm] Failed to open DRM device for pci:0000:01:00:0, points to the video card. I've been using this card for several years. Could the keypress have changed something that a reboot wouldn't clear?
