Can't update packages on testing

As per this post https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=160129, I was having AMD driver issues so I had to move to Testing branch in order to be able to use Debian. Now that I have, however, I have 1300 packages to update (just moving to testing fixed my driver issues without any need to install/update anything additionally), which I cannot even do because I am getting the following error:
"You are trying to remove the following essential packages: libapt-pkg6.0 (due to apt) libgnutls30 (due to apt) libext2fs2 (due to e2fsprogs)"
I wonder if it's safe to leave everything like it was, without updating, considering I was fine with what I had on stable? And if not, how do I fix the error?
Thanks.
