Hello everyone! I've been having an irritating problem for awhile that I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me resolve. I am running Debian 12 Stable (GNOME) on an HP Laptop 14-dq2050ca. I'm happy to provide any more details about my setup that might be helpful.
The problem has to do with the behaviour of the laptop screen when connecting or disconnecting an external monitor. Let's focus on the case of disconnecting, since this is more annoying, and I'm guessing that both cases have the same root cause (though you never know). I'm using a KVM switch to switch the monitor between this machine and my work machine, so it gets "disconnected" quite often. When this happens, the desired and (to me) expected behaviour would be for the laptop screen to remain on and become the main display. However, the laptop screen shuts off, and I need to close and open the lid, usually quite a few times, before it "wakes up" and prompts me to log in again. If I hit the KVM switch again, the external monitor switches back to my Debian machine without prompting me to log in (assuming it hasn't been very long since I switched to my work machine), and the laptop screen remains off -- however, in this case, closing and opening the lid once is enough to get it to switch back on.
It looks like this has something to do with the lid open/close settings, but I haven't managed to solve it by playing with them. It looks like suspend/sleep settings are also somehow in play, but I'm not exactly sure how. I realise it will take more information than this to track down the cause of this problem, and I'm happy to run any commands or provide anything else that would be helpful. Being far from an expert on how Linux handles hardware, I'm at a bit of a loss![:?]( "Confused")
