[Testing - Trixie] i915 related crashes with kernel 6.9 onwards

Hi,

I'm running testing on a Beelink U59 mini pc. It has been fine until the 6.9 kernel but since then, within a minute or two of booting I get display corruption and the machine restarts. I just tried with 6.10.6 and still get the same issue. I don't see anything that looks related in the log - just a load of @ characters and then the start of the next boot.

I'm not sure if I should report it as a bug, or how to go about doing that. I haven't really found anyone reporting the same thing, so can't rule out it being something specific to my setup.

It's not related to the X server - it still happens if I disable it. The only way I can prevent it crashing is to disable the i915 module, but then I can't get the X server to work.

I thought a generic graphics driver might be enough for what I need, but I can't get it to work. The xorg vesa module says "Refusing to run, Framebuffer or dri device present". And fbdev says "Unable to find a valid framebuffer device". What would be the right approach to set up something like that?

This is the graphics information, running on 6.8.12:
