Hi,
I recently installed Debian because I like the philosophy and I want a stable system. I would not consider myself a beginner though, as I have been using Ubuntu since time immemorial.
I must say that I am a bit surprised-to avoid using the word disappointed-with the performance of Debian. While I like the lean look, my laptop fan seems to be on much more than I remember from my Ubuntu days (generating some level of anxiety). Also, when watching for instance youtube videos, the graphics seems sluggish. I had stock firefox crash a few times already, in addition to random slowdowns of the entire system.
After some research, I learned that this could be due to the fact that my hardware (I have a lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 12) may be too new for Bookworm. Indeed, I had to install the latest kernel from backports and get drivers for my wireless card from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... mware.git/.
In short, I wonder how I can find a balance between stability and support for recent hardware and have many questions on this, like will I be stuck with a sluggishly performing system until Debian 13 comes out (and I worry even that may not solve all the problems)? How can I improve performance without making debian unstable? What should I start looking at to find out performance issues are due to use of wrong drivers, etc?
Thanks
