Parallel /home folders?

I'm temporarily running parallel /home structures for Debian KDE 12.8 and Kubuntu 22.04 (I considered installing Debian to use the same /home, but when I did that with Kubuntu 14.04 and MEPIS 11 it caused some confusion with display settings).I want to synchronize the two without having one clobber the other's Plasma desktop settings etc. and I also don't want the flatpak and snap bloat in the Kubuntu side to transfer to the Debian.

Is is possible to use a command of the form

Code:

cp -r --preserve=all -u /home/* /mnt/sdc3
(but with exclusions for .snap and .flatpack) running with a cron job (say once an hour) to accomplish this, or is there a better way?
