Good evening, everyone!
First off, I'd like to say Merry Christmas! Also, I like to also take two seconds and say thank you for those that put in the time and effort to bring Debian and any other contributions to the community as a whole. I hope this is the correct area to post. I am current Windows 11 User and have flirted with Linux off and on for a few years. I have been eyeing Debian for a while and in the beginning of my Linux affair, the non-free drivers were needed out of the gate for my old PC to work. Fast forward to now and driver support has gotten way better. Plus, now having a wired connection, it has made trying distros much easier. I have grown tired of the stance Microsoft has taken on privacy and the subscription for services. If I'm going to spend my hard earn money, I prefer to start giving it to community projects that put the user first. With this in mind, I'd like to ask a few questions about Debian Bookworm.
1. I am a gamer at heart. I am also a family man. I am a nerd/geek. I love to tinker, and I admit, I love the idea of rolling release upgrades as Arch can do. I understand though that my PC is also used by the Mrs. and my son. I am also at the point in my life I just want my PC to work. My tinkering these days consist of customizing my PC, setting it up and fixing it when it breaks. I understand Debian stable has slightly older packages which honestly, I don't mind. My first question is, do I have to totally switch over to say Debian testing or SiD for this to work smoothly or may I keep the repos on stable and just use backports and flatpaks to have the updated files/programs. I will be using STEAM, WINE/PROTON occasionally but of course will always pick native games first.
2. I understand using applications from the repos will always be best for now at least. When someone uses flatpaks, are the digitally signed for security? This may sound like a silly question and forgive me if it is. Snaps and Flatpaks are new to me and came after my earlier affairs with Linux.
3. I will be posting my PC build here under this post, but I do have a NVIDIA GTX 3070. I am curious if anyone has something close to that and can post their experience with Wayland. I thought of going AMD or possibly waiting for INTEL's battlemage but with the way inflation is going, it looks like more and more it's not worth the cash to shell out for a video card upgrade until next generation. I do remember somewhat how to install the NVIDIA drivers from my past experience, so I have no issues using their drivers instead of open source if needed.
Thank you to all who read my post and put in the input. If it's not a bother, any other questions I have I will post here to keep the information contained, neat and orderly. Also, if you think Debian is not the answer, I am willing to learn and hear feedback on recommendations. At the core of it all, its Linux!

ASUS 570X Unify Motherboard
