[Solved] Emacs and gpg issue

Hello.

I've encountered some weirdness with Emacs and gpg, and wanted to check here before doing more troubleshooting. When listing packages in Emacs (if gpg is installed) I get an error:
Failed to verify signature archive-contents.sig
. Removing gpg lets Emacs work normally. Has anyone else seen this? Does gpg require setup after installation before Emacs can use it? All this is happening on a system with Debian 12.5 (stable, no backports), emacs-gtk 28.2+1-15, gpg 2.2.40-1.1. If this is a new problem to everyone and I can't find a fix on the Intarwebs, I'll post more details. Just thought I'd check whether I'm overlooking something simple before spending more time on this.

Thanks.
